The Rotary Club of Bolsover, along with other guests, enjoyed a harvest meal at Hardwick Hall’s Great Barn Restaurant.
Organised by the National Trust, the evening was hosted by three of the hall’s volunteer gardeners Keith Dudley, Barry Gilthorpe and Geoff Davis
The evening started with the three gardeners showing their guests around the herb and vegetable gardens, along with the tomato-laden greenhouses. The tour included a visit to a summerhouse where a large variety of homegrown vegetables and flowers were displayed, including some of the prize-winning exhibits from Ashover Show (a first time triumph).
Chef Ricky Stephenson, and his staff, prepared a four-course meal. All ingredients for the meal were sourced from the gardens and farm at Hardwick and the taste shone through. The meal started with tomato and goat’s cheese salad followed by parsnip soup, the main dish being roasted cannon of lamb. By the time the choc beetroot cake with mulberry compote arrived, the diners knew the catering staff had surpassed the greatest of expectations.
Thanks for the wonderful evening were expressed by Geoff Davis vice-president of Rotary Club of Bolsover.
