A MONTH long festival is set to get the creative juices of local residents flowing and entertain local communities throughout the Bolsover district.

The Bolsover District Festival will take place between June 29 and July 28 and will involve Bolsover District Council, local groups, clubs and societies coming together to provide a host of activities for people to participate in and enjoy.

It will include music festivals, well dressings and photographic exhibitions and art workshops and there is sure to be something to suit everyone’s taste.

The Festival will start with the Olympic Torch Relay which is coming to Glapwell and Bolsover on Friday June 29 and events such as Olympic Torch making workshops and village games ‘Olympicnic’ events will also be part of the programme.

The Council is also calling upon local artists or performers to come forward to help them provide taster sessions, demonstrations or exhibit their work during the festival.

Bolsover District Council’s cabinet member for social inclusion, Cllr Ann Syrett said: “We are very excited about this festival and we are asking people to make a note in their diaries.

“A wide range of events and activities are being added to the schedule all the time and we want to make it as big and as enjoyable for our residents as possible.

“This is the first festival of its kind we have staged and if it proves successful we will aim to make it an annual feature in our events calendar.”

If any group is planning their own event during the month long festival, please contact Bolsover District Council by using the on-line events form www.bolsover.gov.uk/cultural-events or telephone (01246) 242324.
