Bike store Roy Jervis & Co Ltd will be sponsoring Tasmin Boam, 16, from Matlock after she qualified for the event, even though she only took part in her first ever race in October.

Tasmin had been a successful distance runner winning several county championships and was even ranked number one in the UK for the steeplechase but was keen become a duathlete.

The firm will service Tasmin’s bike and provide clothing and equipment.

Company director Ian Bax said: “We get approached for sponsorship quite a lot but Tamsin’s determination blew us away and we are confident she is destined for big things. We also knew that with Tamsin’s heavy training schedule the fact that we can turn around repairs and servicing in 24 hours would come in handy and it is great to be able to help a future champion.”
