Between Thursday, October 20, and Wednesday, October 26, several men visited the home of an 86-year-old who lives in street off Station Road in the town.

One of them is thought to have stolen her debit card and she was also persuaded to buy some dusters and Christmas cards for nearly £200.

One of the men is described as being white, around five feet tall, of chubby build, with a local accent. He was smartly dressed.

Detective Sergeant Nicola Richardson said: “It’s important that residents protect themselves from people who commit crime in this way. Anyone who considers buying goods on their doorstep should make sure no-one enters their home. They should also think carefully about the price they’re asked to pay.”
