A CRESWELL woman who claimed nearly £16,000 of benefits she was not entitled to has been ordered to pay the money back.

Bolsover District Council and the Department for Work and Pensions prosecuted Tammy Mills, 27, of Portland Avenue, for wrongly claiming benefits as a single person whilst failing to declare she was living with an employed partner - who was also the landlord on her claim.

Mills pleaded guilty at Worksop magistrates’ court, on July 16, to wrongly claiming housing and council tax benefit and income support between January 2009 and February 2011.

She was sentenced to a community order to undertake 120 hours’ unpaid work, given a £100 fine, was ordered to pay £75 costs and was told she must repay benefits she was not entitled to.
