Benefits cheat forced to pay up

A Stapleford woman was handed a three year conditional discharge after pleading guilty to two offences under the Social Security Administration Act 1992, at Nottingham Magistrates Court on January 20.

She was also ordered to pay costs of £382.50 to Broxtowe Borough Council and a £15 victim surcharge.

Adele Jodey Leomin Wright, 23, of Plowman Court, Stapleford was prosecuted in the Nottingham Magistrates’ Court for two offences under the Social Security Administration Act 1992. The offences involved fraudulent claims for Income Support, Housing and Council Tax Benefit.

Wright failed to notify the council and the DWP that she was living with a partner who was employed. As a result of Ms Wright’s fraudulent claim she received £2,825.99 of benefits she was not entitled to.

The Court imposed a three year conditional discharge and ordered her to pay costs of £382.50 and £15 victim surcharge.
