Bean-guzzling teenagers have racked up cash for charity after attempting to smash a world record.

A group from Juniper Training in Chesterfield have raised more than £250 for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

No-one managed to equal the world record of eating 227 baked beans with a cocktail stick in five minutes.

Training officer John Daley, who hates beans with a passion, said: “The centre record was 180 beans, which I think was me. Beans aren’t great at the best of times but when you drain the tomato juice and wash them they taste....awful!”

Trainees from the centre on Dock Walk were treated to a football match in Queen’s Park and pampering sessions, which were provided by educational organisation Nacro.

John added: “Everyone in the centre had a great day and I believe we will be doing something similar again. Watch for other charity events coming soon.

“Big thanks to everyone involved, Nacro, Chesterfield Council and all the students.”
