An animal charity is hosting a special event today to address the increased number of horses being neglected or dumped.
RSPCA inspectors rescued 25 horses in Derbyshire last year compared to 5 in 2009 - a rise of 400 per cent.
The charity has teamed up with Redwings, the British Horse Society, Blue Cross, World Horse Welfare, Derbyshire police, Derbyshire Dales District Council and Jamieson Vets to offer support to Dales horse owners. The Equine Link day will be held at the Agricultural Business Centre, in Bakewell, today between 10am and 4.30pm.
For a donation of £20 owners can bring along their horses to have a health check by an specialist equine vet, micro–chipping, a passport application, worming and assistance with future castration.
