BAKEWELL: Golf club’s charity day raises £1565

In May Bakewell Golf Club held another of their successful Charity Golf Days.

The organisers this year were vice-captain Peter Freeman and Hilda Mellor (ably assisted by her husband Ted) who ensured a very smoothly run competition run as a Stableford Am Am in teams of four. Entrants also included several mixed teams.

The weather proved to be typically spring like – perfect for the morning golfers and challenging for the afternoon teams. The winners were the team of Past Captain Adrian Fewings, Chris Ashbrook, James Trevethick and Roger Upton with 85 points on a count back. Second were Steve Rowland, Murray Scott, George Oliver and vice-captain Peter Freeman who also scored 85 points. Third were the team of past captain Paul Dungworth, T. Collinson, and S. Kewley with 84 points. Nearest the pin prizes were won by G. Davies(5th), James Trevethick (18th) and Val Cousins (18th ladies).

The golf was followed by a raffle and an auction conducted by vice-captain Peter Freeman for the numerous prizes generously donated by local businesses and individuals.

The day’s activities resulted in raising £1565 which will this year be donated to the local charity Helen’s Trust.
