The centre of the village was transformed into a period-style market for the second series of show, which is set in the roaring Twenties.

Leading lady Maxine Peake and many of the other main characters spent several days filming scenes in Hayfield, with some cast members staying at the Royal Hotel.

Landlady Lisa Davis said: “The filming does have a good impact on business. Lots of curious people have come to have a look, some of them have had lunch and some have just enjoyed watching what was going on.

“We do get people coming in asking about it and the various other locations.

“Behind the scenes the logistics of it all is incredible. Setting up the market in our car park was very impressive.

“I do think they’ve done well, it’s been great, we’ve really enjoyed it.”

Filming will continue until July with six more episodes set for broadcast later in the year.

The Village has been nominated for three Bafta awards, it has been announced this week.
