Audio trail at canal

Derbyshire Wildlife Trust has created the trail along Cromford Canal.

Funded by Derbyshire County Council, the trail goes from Cromford Wharf along the towpath to Leawood Pumphouse.

As people walk along the canal they will see 15 small QR codes. These can be scanned with a smart phone, taking visitors to a short recording streamed via the internet.

They can also download the trail from home before their visit. It is free of charge but normal call plan charges will apply.

Dave Savage, from the trust, has developed the trail. He said: “We are lucky to have such an amazing site for wildlife in Derbyshire. You have a really good chance of seeing a water vole plopping into the water as you walk along the towpath, and there is a wealth of insect and plant life to be seen too.

“The trail will help beginners and experts alike to appreciate the diversity of life in and on the canal.”

County councillor Andy Botham, said: “I’m sure that the audio trail will be well used and will help to tell the story of the canal.”
