Ashover’s All Saints Parochial Church Council has completed the purchase of a plot of land behind the Bassett Rooms in the village for use, at least initially, as recreational space for users.
The announcement has been described as “good news for the local community.”
Children’s groups and local artists will be among the first to benefit from the new facility.
“We are delighted to have acquired this plot of land, which will enhance the amenity of the Bassett Rooms, and are most grateful to Mr Thomas Hounsfield for making it available to the Parish,” said the Rector, the Revd Ralph Lawrence, this week.
The land has been purchased with donations from a number of private individuals in the community - to the delight of Parochial Church Council members who are now working to build up church funds after the recent spire and tower restoration project.
The PCC will also investigate the most cost-effective and reliable method of fencing the site and providing an appropriate access.
