IT was the wedding dress of the year.
And students from Mount St Mary’s college in Spinkhill worked against the clock to recreate Kate Middleton’s gown after the royal wedding last week.
Four pupils from the art department had their eyes glued to the television at 11am on the big day when the nation got first sight of the dress.
The team, lead by Head of Art Penny Woodhouse, began their interpretation of the dress with a sketch and then set to work with fabric, lace and ribbon to recreate designer Sarah Burton’s creation.
Penny said: “This is the first Royal wedding for students and we wanted to do something very special to mark the occasion and celebrate the happy couples’ day.
“The art students have a fantastic talent and eye for detail when it comes to fashion and did tremendously well. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed recreating the beautiful design.”
The pupils even made a tiara, bouquet and engagement ring using department materials. Holly Band posed in the dress as Kate.
