Adam John Thompson, 22, of Southgate Crescent, Clowne, damaged the door at his sister’s home at Rhodes Cottages, Clowne, according to a Chesterfield magistrates’ court hearing.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam told the hearing on May 10: “The complainant Emma Thompson is the sister of the defendant and made a statement to police confirming she had been at her property and the defendant was outside kicking at her door and shouting before he left.”

Thompson told police he had a row with his girlfriend who had gone to his sister’s house and he accepts kicking the door.

Ms Haslam added that the defendant has agreed to pay for the damage caused and the value has been estimated at about £100.

Thompson, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to causing the damage after the incident on March 19.

Defence solicitor Steve Brint said Thompson has been before the court in the past but he has not been in any trouble for two years and he is desperately trying to sort his life out.

Mr Brint added: “He’s got a girlfriend and they have been in a relationship for about two years and there was a minor disagreement at home and she stormed out and he stewed and then went to his sister’s to finish the argument and to move on.

“His sister refused to let him see his partner and he kicked an inanimate object which happened to be the door.”

Magistrates sentenced Thompson to a 12 month conditional discharge and warned that if he commits another offence in the next year he will be sentenced for any new crime and re-sentenced for the criminal damage matter.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
