FORMER allotments are set to be transformed in to a housing development.

The scheme for 150 houses, submitted by High Peak Properties for the site at Masefield Avenue, Holmewood was granted planning permission by NE Derbyshire District Council.

Concerns were raised about traffic entering and leaving the site but highways bosses said the road was adequate for the scale of the development.

One resident submitted a letter calling for a community centre to be provided on the site and a petition submitted by 40 residents of Hunloke Road objecting to access to the site was also given to the council.

But councillors voted in favour of the scheme.

Developers say the plans will see quality, low cost homes along with new play space and improved cycle and pedestrian access.

Twenty-six allotments are also set to be provided.
