LANDLOCKED Dronfield is the setting for fantastical sea adventures later this month as the town’s Light Opera Group sets sail for a pantomime adventure set around the story of Sinbad the Sailor.

Sinbad is famous for his Seven Voyages, but none would have been quite like the pantomime version coming to Dronfield Civic Hall for two long weekends, starting January 20.

The story may be old but there’s a freshness to the pantomime version says director Andrea Powell, All pantomimes tend to have all the same ingredients, but it’s the context and how you mix them that matters, she says.

So there’s a magical black light scene set on an island of bones; comedy capers from Dame Peony Poopdeck (David Pierce); queasy first mate Mustapha Sickbag and hapless henchmen Hardtack (Rachel Cooper Bassett) and Weevil (Julie Ballin).

The villainy comes from evil Halapena (Aida Banfield) wh0 wants to wrest the power of Sultan Pepa (David Allen).

Lindsay Ashmore plays the title role and Andrea Ryder is Princess Sheherazade.

Performances take place on January 20, 21 and 22, January 26. 27 and 28 at 7.15pm with matinees on Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22, and Saturday, January 28, at 2.15pm.
