ALFRETON: Wesley Church is a hive of activity

Alfreton

Fellowship

Members of the Ladies Fellowship of Alfreton Wesley Church were invited to take along to their meeting on Wednesday an item that was old, small and precious to them. Valerie Cogar was pianist.

Study

The fortnightly Bible study group at Alfreton Wesley Church on Monday was led by minister the Rev Adrian Smith of Tansley. Members are currently studying the Acts of the Apostles.

Film

The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “Carousel”, starring Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones, was screened at a meeting of Alfreton Wesley Church film club.

A welcome was extended by Caroline Dellow and refreshments were served by June Dellow and helpers.

Drama

Members of the drama group of Alfreton Wesley Church travelled to St John’s Methodist Church at Hereford to see a presentation of the 1920s comedy “Where There’s a Will...” The play, which had its premiere at Alfreton last summer, was staged by the Hereford church’s drama group. The two-day trip also included a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.

Last year members of the Alfreton team made a similar visit to Hereford, when the group staged the Alfreton play “Murder at the Manse.”

Christian Aid

A coffee morning at Alfreton Wesley Church on Saturday raised about £130 for Christian Aid. There were also cake and bring-and-buy stalls.

Choir

The Gospel Crusaders Choir from Stonebroom Methodist Church will be visiting Alfreton Wesley Church on Saturday to present an evening of devotional music. The evening, in aid of the Bible Society, is being arranged by the society’s Alfreton Action Group. The Bible Society funds will also be boosted by two coffee mornings at Alfreton Wesley Church on June 1 and 29.
