Inner Wheel

President Clair Nightingale arranged for the May meeting of Alfreton Inner Wheel to take a different format with a change of venue. Clair welcomed everyone to St Joseph’s Church Hall in Ripley, for afternoon tea. A particular welcome was extended to speakers, Rotary past district governor, Val Leivers and her husband Rotarian Terry.

After the business meeting, with business kept to a minimum, club overseas organiser Kay Ramsbottom, introduced past district governor Val and Rotarian Terry to the members.

They gave a presentation with pictures and music, after which Val gave a very interesting talk explaining the work the couple undertake in India, where the priorities are housing and water. The photographs shown told the story of the poverty and the need for housing. Houses are being built with support from Rotary and Inner Wheel.

Following the presentation O.S.O. Kay thanked Val and Terry and presented Val with a cheque for £600 to be used to build a house. There is already a family earmarked for the house, and Val said she hopes to bring back some photographs when they go to India on their annual visit next January.

Everyone then enjoyed a superb afternoon tea with dainty sandwiches and delicious cakes catered for by Clair and members.
