High winds caused a heavy metal air duct to blow from the roof of a Chesterfield block of flats on Sunday.

The duct blew from the roof of the Markham Quay flats on Camlough Walk, falling three storeys on to the carpark below, where it was found on Sunday afternoon.

The panel is about five feet long by four feet wide and weighed so much the residents who found it found it difficult to move.

Mike Carney, who emailed in the photo above, said: “It could easily have killed somebody or, if it had blown the other way, could have ended up on the Midland Main Line.

“Fortunately, no one was there when it came down but there are residents coming and going all the time so it easily could have got someone.”

Mike reported it to the company that maintains the building, Watson Property Management, and they said they were intending to get someone out the look at it on Monday morning.
