aIR cadets from Chesterfield are flying high after winning their fourth major competition in one year.

The 331 (Chesterfield) Squadron – which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year – scooped Overall Trophy in the Trent Wing Cross County Championship at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire.

There were trophies for the squadron in the junior men, junior girls and senior girls categories, as well as many individual bronze, silver and gold medals.

As a result of their successful day, several cadets were selected to go on to represent Trent Wing in the central and east region Air Cadets competition.

The squadron’s triumph follows on from winning the Overall Trophies in three other main Trent Wing competitions in the past 12 months – athletics, Wing Field Day and the swimming championship.

Squadron Commander Flt Lt Simon Donaldson told the cadets: “This is a brilliant result for you as individuals and members of the squadon teams in all these competitions over the past year.

“I can’t remember that we have ever done as well before.”
