COMEDY legend, Steve Coogan, goes behind the scenes as producer on a new sitcom set in Derbyshire.
The Alan Partridge star is joined by former Chesterfield lad and The Royle Family co-writer, Henry Normal to produce Starlings, which follows the lives of a typical working-class brood, living near Matlock.
Scenes for the show are expected to be filmed in the town.
Starring Brendan Coyle from Downton Abbey and TV regular Lesley Sharp as husband and wife, the show, commissioned by Sky1, is due to air next year.
It follows the lives of Terry and Jan, who let Grandad come and stay following a rabble-rousing incident at the old folk’s home. Making room for him is Charlie, their 16-year-old football-crazy daughter, reptile enthusiast Gravy, and beautiful Bell with her new baby Zac. Then there’s Bell’s ex-boyfriend, Reuben and Uncle Loz. Last of all is Jan’s nephew, Fergie, who offers to sleep in the garden after being made homeless.
Steve Coogan said: “We are very excited about this smart but accessible new television series which will make people laugh and cry in equal measure for all the right reasons.”
