Motorway users were caught up in a delay after a man was seen sitting on a footbridge over the carriageway.
The M1 was closed in both directions from around 8.15am during the rush hour after the man was spotted on the footbridge near to junction 28.

A Derbyshire police spokeswoman said: "There was concern for his safety so we closed the road in both directions for less than half an hour."

Traffic built up on the motorway while it was closed but quickly dispersed when police negotiators persuaded the man to come down and reopened the road.

The man was later detained by officers for his own safety.
