Environmentally minded community groups are being given a financial boost to help them carry out green projects in their local area.

Derbyshire County Council is awarding over £2,000 to seven community projects as part of the Derbyshire Greenwatch Action Grants scheme.

The money will help fund a variety of projects ranging from environmental workshops to the creation of a wildlife garden.

Each project will be given up to a maximum of £500 to go towards items such as tools, materials and plants.

Cllr Brian Lucas, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for environment, said: "It's good to see so many community groups doing their bit for the environment.

"We are pleased to be able to help them set up worthwhile projects in the areas that they live in."

Among the projects benefiting from the latest round of grants are:

  • Upgrading of hay barn at Gang Mine, Middleton by Wirksworth

  • Raised beds and wildlife garden at Crich Junior School

  • Wildlife garden at Ashgate Croft School
