£30,000 pledged for Ashgate Hospice in Moonlight Miles event

Supporters clapped, cheered and donated their loose change as 350 night owls pounded the pavements of Chesterfield to raise cash for Ashgate Hospice.

Pledges of more than £30,000 have been made to the hospice after the Moonlight Miles event on Saturday.

Emily Evans, corporate and events manager at the hospice, said: “It went really well. Over 100 volunteers gave up their time, some starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 3am.”

Participants, ranging from 11 years to 75 years, had the choice of walking or running ten-mile or 6.5-mile routes in and around Chesterfield.

Emily said: “There were a few asthma attacks because of the high pollen count but only one person was transported to hospital and they were back in time to get their medal.”

Flashing bunny ears and onesies kept the Moonlight Miles masses safe and warm.

Emily added: “The main aim was to keep warm and keep going.

“Thank you to everyone who helped and took part in the sponsored event. It was a fantastic atmosphere.”
