Students at Hope Valley College brought 1960s New York to Derbyshire last week with four superb performances of the musical West Side Story.

In total 152 students took part in the production, which tells the story of rival gangs the Jets and the Sharks while following the romance of Jets member Tony, and Maria, the sister of the Sharks leader Bernardo. The cast spent six months rehearsing and received standing ovations on all four nights, said Assistant Prinicipal Alison Scorer.
