CHESTERFIELD will have some stunning new banners on display for the forthcoming 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

The banners are being made by local people and banner decorating workshops are taking place over the next couple of months.

The first workshop took place on International Women’s Day at the Donut Centre in Chesterfield where local people from varying age ranges and abilities came together to create the first set of banners, focusing on the Paralympic values.

Cllr Nick Stringer, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: “The banners will be one way we want to showcase Chesterfield’s support for the 2012 London Olympics and fits with the strong emphasis on cultural activities that the Games are hoping to inspire.

“We’ve already allocated most of the workshops but there are a few places left so if anyone is interested in making their mark to a significant moment in the town’s history then please get in contact.”

The banners will be used at the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay in Chesterfield on 29th June and throughout the summer to promote the town’s support of the 2012 London Olympics.
