Chesterfield & District AC's Yasmin Spencer confirmed her position as the best U17 shot-putter in the country when, representing Derbyshire Schools' at Gateshead, she added the English Schools' Intermediate Girls title to the Junior Girls gold medal she won last year.
After a tussle with close rival, Nottinghamshire's Tesni Ward, who had beaten her in the AAA Indoors event earlier in the year, the 15-year-old Lady Manners student came through to win with a new personal best of 12.66m, and to regain her place at the top of the UK outdoor rankings.
Yasmin's victory ensured her selection for the Home Countries Schools' match at Bedford on Saturday, and the award of her first international vest.
Ed Mourbey, Chesterfield's outstanding pole-vaulter, also added a Senior Boys bronze medal (with a new personal best of 4.60m), to the silver he picked up in the Junior Boys competition in 2005.
He is hoping that this will now be sufficient for the Northern Ireland selectors to confirm his place in the team for the Commonwealth Youth Games in India in October.
Other performances from CDAC athletes, who made up the largest contingent from any of the County's clubs, were:
Junior Boys: James Selvey 10th (ht1) 1500m 4:30.15; Matthew Kirkland 11th pole vault 2.70m; Nathan Melbourne 9th javelin 39.85m. Inter Boys: Robert Scott 14th long jump 5 91m. Senior Boys: Daniel Passey 8th pole vault 4.20m. Inter Girls: Lauretta Curtis 4th 100m 12.29s; Sian Pentin 10th hammer (pool B) 30.61m; Rebecca Baraona 13th javelin 31.97m.
An excellent win at Grimsby moved the CDAC team up to the top of the league after the third match in the Northern Senior League Div. 3EC.
A repeat of this form in the final match at Mansfield next month would see the club make an immediate return to Division Two after relegation last season.
Match result: Chesterfield 383, Sheffield 350, Barnsley 312, Cleethorpes 293.5, Newark 184, Derby 176.5. League table (with one match to play): Chesterfield 15 points, Sheffield 14, Barnsley 12, Cleethorpes 10, Derby 7, Newark 5.
