Veteran boxer Greg Scott-Briggs has claimed the Midlands Area cruiserweight title.
The Chesterfield-based fighter clinched the belt by beating Rob Wilson on points over four rounds at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

Greg (42) would like to defend his crown in Chesterfield and has ambitions of a tilt at the English title.

''I used the experience I have gained throughout my career to win the belt,'' said Greg.

Meanwhile, Alfreton's Adie Whitmore made it eight wins out of eight when he produced a sensational first round knockout against Sheffield opponent Carl Wild.

Worryingly, Wild was unconscious for several minutes at the Harvey Haddon complex in Nottingham and required the assistance of paramedics before he was able to get to his feet.

Adie's manager Mike Shinfield had agreed a promotional deal with Frank Maloney providing Adie produced a good performance.

And the contract, which will ensure the Alfreton fighter gets TV exposure and will almost certainly box for the British Championship before the end of the year, was signed immediately after the contest.

A busy night for the Shinfield gym saw Rendall Munroe make a succesful defence of his European Championship when he forced his French opponent Salem Bouaita to retire at the end of the seventh round.

Scott Haywood was a second round knockout winner against another Frenchman, Frederic Gosset.

Making his professional debut Steve Jevons, from Ripley, impressed with his boxing ability against South African Bekhi Moyo, putting Moyo down in the second round and recording a comfortable points win.

The last of the Shinfield's stable was Kevin Hammond having his second professional contest, so impressive was he in his first round knockout win over Gavin Brook that a promotional deal with Frank Maloney was agreed immediately.
