A Chesterfield martial arts club has won a host of top medals at a national tournament.

Five members of the Chesterfield Karate and Kickboxing Club competed in the British Open at Chorley and returned home with 11 medals.

World pairs kata champions, Bethany Revill (12) and Sarah Thorpe (13) were joined by David Leaver (15) in the Team Kata, recorded a victory by a huge margin and received a standing ovation from the crowd for their troubles.

Sarah and David then both made it a double celebration, as they both won their respective individual Kata sections.

Team captain Sarah was joined on the podium in the Kata contest by her colleagues, Bethany who clinched second place and current World Champion Joanna Leaver (8), who achieved a creditable third place, ensuring a remarkable Chesterfield treble.

David just missed out on becoming a triple champion, and had to settle for second place in the points fighting category, losing out by a single point in the final.

Darren Revill also became a double British champion, to add to his double world champion status, by recording convincing victories in both the kata and points fighting sections.
