Variety is the spice of concert

Bakewell Choral Society is to present a programme of sung and instrumental music, stretching from Shakespeare to the Beatles.

Composer George Shearing's settings of Shakespeare's sonnets to a jazz theme will be among the highlights of a concert at Lady Manners School, Bakewell, on Saturday, July 11, at 7.30pm.

The programme includes well-loved classics such as Night and Day, Smoke gets in your Eyes and the choir conductor's Richard Barnes' own arrangement of Smile.

The poignant Eleanor Rigby and the joyful Good Day Sunshine are amongst a selection of songs from the Beatles' Revolver album.

Tickets cost 10 (schoolchildren and students free) can be obtained from Bakewell Bookshop, tel (01629) 812818, The Peak Bookshop, tel. (01629) 56680 or at the door.

Free transport from surrounding villages can be obtained by calling Vern Johnson on (01629) 58494.
