Tams' festival joy

Award-winning singer/songwriter John Tams says he is looking forward to performing at a festival in Ashover this weekend.

John and Barry Coope, who were voted BBC Radio 2 Duo of the Year in 2008, will top a feast of music and merry-making under the guise of Ashover Well Dressed Folk and Roots Festival.

John said: "It is great to be playing back in our home country in what promises to be one of the great village festivals.

"We played in Ashover last year and it was one of the best nights we've ever had. We are honoured to have been invited back.

"The festival organisers have put a tremendous bill together."

John, who lives in Nether Heage, near Ripley, has won six Radio 2 awards throughout his career. He was nominated for an Olivier Award for his musical contribution to the show War Horse which has just extended its run in London's West End.

He and his wife Sally adapted War Horse for the radio with Timothy Spall, Brenda Blethyn and Bob Hoskins voicing the characters. Best-selling author Michael Morpurgo loved this broadcast of his novel so much that he asked the couple to adapt it for the concert stage and this will receive its premiere at Bristol on November 8.

l Kerfuffle, Elbow Jane, Rosie Doonan & Snapdragon are among the artists performing at the Ashover festival, from Friday to Sunday, July 3 to 5.
