Swan-derful fare at revamped pub

In the heart of Chesterfield town centre is a newly refurbished pub offering food and real ales.

The White Swan was an obvious choice for a post-work treat, serving food from 12-7pm.

I was welcomed by friendly staff and chose a comfy seat by the window to watch the world go by.

There is a large selection of real ales, many from local breweries, including beers from its own brewery the Raw Brewing Company based in Staveley, and a large selection of world beers are on the menu.

Their menu offers home-made food at reasonable prices.

My starter of home-breaded Brie wedge melted in my mouth and was complemented by the sweet chutney, served with a bed of leafy salad to accompany the dish.

For my main course I chose a burger, but I was impressed by the large selection of mains. Alongside the mains were more choices from baguettes, paninis and jackets, even a deli board, along with a separate children’s menu.

There were a few unusual choices on the menu and I also noticed their hand-battered cod was coated with ‘Mucky Duck’ beer batter which was a nice touch to use their own RAW ale.

The home-made vegetarian burger was delicious, it came with home-made chips and salad, and was served with tomato relish and mustard mayo. Lots of different flavours to decipher, and more than enough to eat which meant I couldn’t manage a dessert.

I was really happy with my meal out and have already recommended the pub to friends.

The service was excellent, plates cleared away quickly and courses coming at a steady pace.

I felt comfy and relaxed, helped by their warm modern décor.

The prices were great for a town centre pub whose location is ideal.

I look forward to the White Swan’s forthcoming festive menu as this would be an ideal place for a Christmas party.
