Performers launch their annual repertory season in Chesterfield this week.

Actors and directors from Tabs Productions, Rumpus Theatre Company and Talking Scarlet will be combining their talents to stage six different plays in six weeks.

Comedies and a thriller are among the offerings in the fourth Civic Season hosted by the Pomegranate Theatre.

The fun kicks off on Tuesday, January 31, with Murdered to Death, a spoof of the Agatha Christie genre set in a country house, and starring Nicholas Briggs of Dr Who fame.

Tabs Productions, which is staging the opening play until Saturday, February 4, staged the work in Nottingham last spring, where it was the last to be directed by Pomegranate stalwart Colin McIntyre before he died.

Karen Henson, of Tabs Productions, said: “I guess it’s our final tribute to The Guv’nor.”

Other plays to be staged during the season are:

Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, presented by Talking Scarlet from February 7-11;

Cider With Rosie by Laurie Lee, presented by Rumpus Theatre Company, from February 14-18;

Haunting Julia, by Alan Ayckbourn, presented by Tabs Productions from February 21-25;

Silly Cow, by Ben Elton, presented by Talking Scarlet Let, from February 28-March 3;

Funny Money, by Ray Cooney, presented by Rumpus Theatre Company, from March 6-10.

Performances are at 7.30pm with Saturday matinees at 3pm.

ickets cost £12 and £13 (Saturday evening); adult concessions £9.50 (£10 Saturday evening); children £7.50.
