Playwright back on home turf

Make sure you leave your diary clear for Friday, February 3, and Saturday, February 4, because M.A.D.E Theatre Productions are back in Derbyshire.

This time the company comes to Derby Studio Theatre with two new solo plays: Before the Hymns by David Taylor which introduces us to Joaney, a woman determined to share one last tale with the congregation at her own funeral and Cloak and Daggers by Marlene Sidaway; a tale of desire, revenge and murder. Involving one antique cloak and three very different women,

Alfreton-born playwright David Taylor, who is based at Kingston University, last brought a M.A.D.E Theatre production to Derbyshire in November 2010 with his play Serendipity Cottage, which the Derbyshire Times reviewer praised as being ‘powerful, polished, enthralling and entertaining’ and ‘a rare gem in community theatre’.

Both plays are performed by highly accomplished actress Marlene Sidaway. Marlene has played a wealth of roles for theatre, television, film and radio, which has included National Theatre (Botilda, The Enchantment; Lydia, A Prayer for Owen Meany,) Television (Pride and Prejudice, Coronation Street, Being Human, The Hustle) and Film (Me and Orson Wells; Beautiful Thing; Venus).

With her play Cloak and Daggers Marlene Sidaway also shows she is an accomplished playwright

In Before the Hymns and Cloak and Daggers Marlene has the challenge of playing four very different characters. Marlene is able to draw on her vast experience including success at Salisbury Playhouse with Alan Bennett’s Lady in the Van, which critics hailed as ‘totally believable’ .

Tickets £10 and £8; concessions are available from Derby Studio Theatre Box Office (01332) 255 800
