‘First Lady of Folk’ tunes up for show
Julie Felix
Organisers of a north Derbyshire music club are cock-a-hoop at landing an internationally-renowned legend for their monthly concert.
Chesterfield Folk Club has secured singing star Julie Felix for a show on Friday, November 9.
Dave Bateson, chairman of the club said, “It’s a great privilege to have Julie Felix performing at our club. She was such a big TV star in the 1960s and was a major part of the folk revival of that time.
“We’re looking forward to a particularly special evening.”
Julie, who will play at Club Chesterfield in Ashgate, Chesterfield, notched up two hit singles in the UK in 1970 - If I Could and Heaven Is Here.
Renowned for her political views and branded The First Lady of Folk in the Sixties, she regularly performed her hit songs on The Frost Report and her own BBC show, Once More With Felix.
Current issues find their way into her own compositions mixed with classic songs such as John Lennon’s Imagine and Bob Dylan’s Blowin’ in the Wind.
At her concert in Chesterfield, she will be supported by local singer Rosie Meek, with the band The Open Road.
Tickets cost £11 and are available at Chesterfield Tourist Information Centre or through the club’s website at www.chesterfieldfolkclub.org. For further information, call 01623 429020.
