Fasten your seatbelts for a terrifying ride

Dangerous Obsession at the Pomegranate Theatre, October 18-20

Dangerous Obsession at the Pomegranate Theatre, October 18-20

A beautiful sunlit conservatory and birdsong sound effects greet the audience for Dangerous Obsession at the Pomegranate this week – so you sort of know from the outset that it will all end in tears.

And so it does, but not without some twists, surprises and even the occasional gunshot along the way.

Pomegranate favourites George Telfer and Ben Roddy and former Emmerdale star Anna Brecon take the audience on a chilling rollercoaster ride through a tangled web of jangling emotions, betrayal and tragedy as the story unfolds.

Two more contrasting types would be hard to find: dull, verbose John (George), who proves to be a man with an agenda, and dashing alpha male Mark (Ben), harbouring a grim secret. The slow unpicking of the point at which their lives touch is edge-of-the-seat stuff, and the biggest mystery is where it is all going to end.

Anna Brecon as Sally, the woman caught in the crossfire, has the rockiest ride of all. Her eyes are almost better actors than she is, conveying every possible feeling from boredom through contempt to sheer naked terror.

Dangerous Obsession is a Talking Scarlet production, which Pomegranate regulars know means quality theatre. It certainly is.

The thriller continues on Friday and Saturday, October 19 and 20, at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 3pm.
