Des heads town’s star-studded entertainment

Stars have Chesterfield firmly in their sights as the town hosts a packed programme of entertainment over the coming months.

There will be a rare opportunity to see showbusiness legend Des O’Connor on May 24 as well as star comedians Jim Davidson (March 7), Stewart Francis (April 13) and Freddie Starr (April 15) at the Wimding Wheel.

The town’s showpiece venue is also hosting the colourful musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, from May 1 to 5.

Should comedy drama be more to your taste the “hilarious” Agatha Christie spoof Murdered to Death comes to the Pomegranate Theatre (31 Jan to 4 Feb). The first in the Pomegranate’s 2012 CiVIc Season, this play is followed by Waiting For Godot, Cider with Rosie, Haunting Julia, Silly Cow and Ray Cooney’s Funny Money.

While you can never be sure where you’ll hear the first cuckoo of Spring, you can definitely see one at the theatre! Cuckoo (14 to 17 March) is a brand new play about the Chesterfield Canal featuring professional actors and members of the Pomegranate Youth Theatre.
