Sadness as plug is pulled on Battery
Managers have spoken of their sadness and ‘bitter disappointment’ after the plug was pulled on Chesterfield live/alternative music venue Battery.
Bosses at Battery and its sister club Department on Cavendish Street, said the venues were having to close for good after having failed to meet Christmas targets.
Around £150k was spent on the re-launch of Cavendish Street venues – formerly and collectively known as Escapade – in a bid to rejuvenate Chesterfield’s nightlife by offering entertainment such as PAs from TV soap stars at the Department, and live music from local bands at Battery.
Battery, which was opened by Christian Carlisle of BBC Introducing, aimed to fill a gap for live music in the area.
Club chiefs have blamed cut-price drinks offers at other venues across the town for them having to pull the plug on their operations.
