Rockers getting fresh

Pugma-Ho

Pugma-Ho

VERY RARELY do I attend a gig when most of the songs are fresh.

When I say fresh, I don’t

necessarily mean new, just songs I’ve not really heard live before.

Derbyshire’s Pugma-Ho have cottoned on to this by having an interesting set, opening up at The Red Lion, Fritchley, with I Don’t Need No Doctor by Humble Pie.

Old it may be, but a great start was created as they carried on knocking out different tunes to the norm by The Who, and Led Zep.

Familiarity did soon appear as we had ZZ Top’s Give Me All Your Lovin’, Gun’s version of Word Up and Blue Frog Blues by Rory Gallagher, which I’d never heard before.

With a short intermission over, the songs became more obvious as Steve on vocals, Dave on bass, Chris on guitar and Clive smacking the Sonor kit at the back hit us with some Neil Young and a great version of Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love.

Joining them was local chap Dave Longdon who gave the song an added boost.

With Jailbreak by Thin Lizzy and Led Zep’s Rock & Roll the lads soon brought the night to a close, though they did get Dave back for an even louder version of the Van Halen classic, as they felt the first attempt wasn’t up to speed!

Having only seen the guys once before, and yes, some newer songs would have been nice, we all agreed that Pugma-Ho did themselves proud and a good night was had by all.

Now, about that name...
