A roaring fire and a warm welcome greeted me upon my arrival at Barringtons, in Darley Dale.
It was my first visit to the restaurant since it changed management a couple of years ago so I was wondering what might have changed. The answer was ‘not a lot’.
The restaurant still had the same friendly and slightly informal atmosphere that it always did, with the same varied menu of reasonably priced food, and I noticed that it still promoting mid–week offers for two and three courses which always seemed to be a good deal.
The hiss of the open fire banished away the chill of the January air as I made my selection from the menu.
To start, I had mushroom bruschetta. When it arrived it was a field mushroom atop ciabatta bread laden with mozzarella cheese and just the right amount of garlic and balsamic vinegar. I happily cleared my plate.
For the main course I chose an 8oz sirloin steak from the char grill menu.
The steak came with an abundance of hand cut chips, grilled tomato, mushrooms, peas and onion rings.
I ordered some beef red wine sauce to go on the side, which turned out to be slightly watery for my taste, but don’t usually like to dilute the taste of the meat with a sauce anyway.
The steak itself was cooked to perfection with a good texture, although it did taste slightly sweet.
When it came to dessert I went for a hearty sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely delicious. A perfect amount of pudding with a creamy toffee sauce (which I could have drank by itself) as well as ice cream.
The restaurant decor felt slightly bland, but the quality of the service and high standard of food made mine a pleasant dining experience at Barringtons
