Roy Lowe's appeal in our Down Memory Lane feature last week for a date on a picture prompted Marion Yeldham to send in another one from the same era.
Marion, from Greenways, Walton Hall, Chesterfield, sorted out the picture above taken during a visit by star Max Bygraves between 1956 and 1958 in the entrance to the offices of Robertson & Woodcock (Trebor Sweets).

She says that Roy's picture was taken there, but can't provide a date.

"I started work in the offices in August 1956. I can't remember that event (looks like an outing) so assume it pre-dates my start."

She does recognise many of the faces of people on Roy's picture and can name a few.

The picture above was taken when Max appeared in town.

Marion, who adds that she hopes the picture brings back "sweet memories", lists those she can remember as:

Front row (left to right): — —, — —, Hilda Clark (factory manager), Max Bygraves, Val Cannon, Mary Newby, Joan Beazley, Maureen Boyce, Hazel Hamlet, — —.

Second row: Janet Cordon, Mary Ede, — —, Pat Wood, Marion herself, Pat Dance, Dorothy —.

Third row: — —, — —, June Philpot, Barbara Warwick (now Tyzak), Janet Wood (nee Franklin), Iris Bartram and Joan Buck.

Back row: — —, June Panter, Audrey Robertson, Doreen Bailey (office manager), Mr Weeks, — —.

Those Marion can name on last week's picture (below) are:

First left on the second row from the front, she says, is Hazel Hamlet (office) and the tallman to the left of the doorway is Alex Allen (factory manager).

On the fourth row from the front on the right of the doorway was Mr Beech (factory/stores).

The lady listed as Mary Newby is actually my mother Mary Handby Nee Alcock. My brother seems to think the photo was taken in either 1955 or 1956, as Mary who worked in the wages dept left to have a baby in 1957. Sadly she passed away in July 2008.
