SIR — On June 15 I had taken my grandchildren to Eckington Swimming Pool.

On entering the water, I noticed an unconscious female in the water.
I lifted her out of the water and held her head above the surface as I waded to the side of the pool, shouting to get the attendtion of the attendants.

Another swimmer helped
me push, while an attendant pulled her upwards onto the poolside.

At this point, everyone was asked to leave the pool area and go to the changing rooms.

It was here the exertion and stress caught up with me and I suffered an angina attack (I am 78 years old and recently had a heart by-pass operation).

I am full of admiration for the pool attendants who gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to the unconscious lady, the paramedics and ambulance crew who revived her and I also appreciate the thanks and voucher I received from the pool staff.

However, I just could not believe the letter Praise For Staff in Pool Drama (Mailbox, June 19) as there was so little resemblance between that and what actually happened.

None of the attendants had to enter the water - although they did a fantastic job and the paramedics and ambulance crew didn't get a mention.

On reading the letter, I came to the conclusion that Cllr Baxter could have done a little more research on this one!

OAP, Name and address supplied.
