SIR — I am currently researching my road's history. So far I have discovered that in the Victorian era it was a running track connected with the nearby Britannia Inn. I think their garages were once the chaning rooms.
The main races were run in Brampton Wakes Weeks, with prizes and sponsorship from local business people.

Runners came from many areas so it wasn't just a local concern.

I have already done reseach at the local library and written to several breweries that have supplied to the Britannia Inn over the years, but I was wondering if any of your readers knows any other information or, indeed, if any of their relations every took part or watched the races.

I am also interested in finding out if anyone has, or knows if, any photos survive of the races or if people have memories of their lives — or those of their ancestors — living on the road.

Brampton,
Chesterfield.
