SIR — Graham King (Mailbox, May 8) obviously visited a different town centre to me on May Day.
I was in town from 10am until 4pm with my children. There were plenty of market stalls, considering that it was a bank holiday Monday as opposed to a normal working day. There were lots of people too. Indeed the Derbyshire Times elsewhere reports a '
bumper turnout' on the day.

As for Paul Holmes he was certainly there as I listened to him speak in defence of the NHS at the 'Speakers Corner' on Vicar Lane. He then remained for a long time watching and encouraging the superb break dancers, whose ages ranged from older teenagers to young children. Their talent and enthusiasm was a joy to watch and entertained a large crowd.

More reporting should be given over to events like this rather than the moaners and whingers constantly running our town and our children down.

MR CHRIS CLARK,

43 Walton Drive,

Chesterfield.
