SIR — Through your columns I should like to thank everyone who sponsored 17 of us who revived the ancient tradition of "Beating the Bounds" on a 34 mile walk over two days around the Borough of Chesterfield to raise funds for the Mayor's Appeal — "Rainbow's End" — and to mark my retirement as chief executive of the borough council after 24 years.
We are pleased to to say that £1,120 up to press has been raised for the appeal.

I should also like to thank the 16 people who walked all or part of the way with me, particularly Mike and Tina Kennedy who also walked it with me first as a practice to check it was all there!

In addition, on behalf of both myself and my wife Pat, I should like to say that it has been a privilege to serve the borough council amd public of Chesterfield for so long.

DAVID SHAW,
Former Chief Executive,
Chesterfield Borough Council.
