SIR — I would like to invite the townspeople of Chesterfield to join me at the Civic Service in Chesterfield Parish Church on Saturday at 11am.
The service will be preceded by a procession from the Town Hall to the church via the Market Place and High Street.
The procession will be led by the St. John Ambulance Band and will include representatives of many organisations based in Cheste
rfield, as well as members of the council and other civic dignitaries.
So as not to conflict with the arrival of the procession at the church, it would be extremely helpful if everyone who wishes to attend the service could be seated in the church by 10.40am.
After the service, which will end at about 11.45am, the procession will move back through the town for a march-past at the Town Hall. There will inevitably be some congestion as the procession passes along the High Street, and I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause to shoppers.
Unfortunately the arrangements for the procession mean that there will be extra pressure on the car park behind the Town Hall, and members of the public are advised to park elsewhere until after 11am on Saturday. The parking area at the front of the Town Hall will also be closed off for the morning until after the procession has returned to the Town Hall. Again I apologise for any inconvenience which this may cause.
CLLR FRED QUAYLE,
Mayor of Chesterfield.
