SIR — Hurrah! At last, after many decades, Clay Cross has got a bus station.

Some genius in the relevant council department has painted one in yellow paint on the road in upper Market Street. In fact, there are two — one either side of the street.

On June 16, around midday, I travelled down Market Street in my car and joined a queue off Bridge Street. There were four buses parked on the downside 'bus station' and four on the upside. There was a queue of traffic on the upside down to Sharley Park Leisure Centre and one across Broadleys.

Upper Market Street in Clay Cross is still the most dangerous place in Derbyshire. A death waiting to happen.

Who will put their hand up then and accept responsibility? All it needs is a bus station like the one in Alfreton: simple, basic, unpretentious and OFF ROAD!.

Come on council, get your act together before it is too late.

RONALD A. BUTLER,
8 Trelawney Road,
Clay Cross.
