SIR — What has happened to the once well kept cemetery at Clay Cross.
I regularly visit my parents' grave and am appalled at damage to some of the older graves, particularly the ones with kerb-type monuments around them.

The number of graves that are damaged on the corners looks as if the only reasonable cause is that they have been clipped by the sit on mowers now being used instead of the older hand-pushed mowers. These damaged kerbs are then, for some reason, stacked on top of the graves — looking both and eyesore and a potential hazard to anyone visiting nearby graves.

The grassed pathway, although expected to be muddy during the recent bad weather, is made worse by the tracks left by the mini digger used to open up graves.

The weight of this mini-digger, together with the sit on mower, I am sure is the main cause of many of the headstones leaning at an angle.

Is it too much to ask that we treat our deceased with the respect that they earned during their lifetimes.

CONCERNED,

Clay Cross.
