Disgusting experience in the park

SIR — I felt the need to write to you as I am extremly disturbed and upset about a recent incident.
As a parent living in the New Whittington area I was very pleased that Brearley Park, near my house, has just had a brand new park built for younger children.

My two-year-old daughter and I visit the new park quite often and usually find (depen
ding on the time of day) teenagers hanging around. Though this can be quite annoying they have never caused us any problems.

On Sunday, July 6, me, my daughter and her dad visited the park at around 7pm. When we arrived there were three teenagers sat around. The new park has these sort of big phone/speaker things where basically you stand at one and and your child can stand at the other and you can speak to each other through them.

That Sunday my daughter went straight to one end and her dad to the other. Just as my partner was going to speak back to our daughter, one of the teenagers said: "I wouldn't speak through that as some lad has been urinating in it."

We were absolutely disgusted, but the worst part was the fact that we took our daughter straight off the park and she was so upset as, being only two, she didn't really understand why we had removed her from the park.

I don't really know what I expect to be done because no-one can physically stop these people from doing what they do, but I really feel that parents should be aware as no parent would want their child putting their mouths near such a thing.

Lauren is right - there isn't much that can be done to stop this disgusting behaviour unless, of course, the council were to introduce round-the-clock patrols. But that is never going to happen.
All we can hope is that if anyone spots anything like this happening they inform either the police or the council.
