A PLUS sized model from Derbyshire famous for her shoots for Special K, New Look and Evans has given the thumbs up to the 'Get Active, Get A Life!' campaign.
Size 14 model Nina Hartley (29), of Bakewell, has travelled all over the globe on the books of the world's top fashion agencies but wants to inspire others to get active.
After a ten-year career at the top she has come back to Derbyshire as a lifestyle coach – and she is 100 per cent behind the Derbyshire Times and Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust campaign to get people moving.
"I think this campaign is marvellous because keeping it simple and making simple changes is incredibly important," said the blonde beauty who works all over Chesterfield and Derbyshire.
"I think people often put off new healthy ways because they feel it has to be this massive change but you can do something today to help yourself like have a glass of water or go out for a walk."
The stunner returned to her home last year and is now a personal trainer and lifestyle director for outdoor company Born2Move, helping adults and children think about their lifestyles.
"As a child I had a body image of being large but I was capable of fitness as well," she said.
"There's a misconception that if you're thin then you're very fit but if you're slightly larger then you're unfit. In my case I carried a bit more body fat but I was one of the best netball players in the team."
After forging her way into the industry as a model for larger size shops such as Evans, Marks and Spencer and New Look, Nina almost got sucked into the path of weight loss for 'normal' sized model contracts.
"Another agency saw I had been getting thinner and asked me to do some work for them," said the ex-Chesterfield College student.
"They wanted me to be a bit thinner though so I started to lose weight because I was tempted by it. You get into that mentality and seems like the only way to be.
"But then I began to lose my other contracts for plus sizes and I didn't look good. I was a size 10 on top but still had my hips. My mum came to see me and was not impressed so I made a decision to stop and get back to my natural shape."
On her return to Derbyshire Nina wanted to rediscover peace and a more natural lifestyle.
"The lifestyle was getting to me — I was in London and I loved it but it was getting tiring with the body image so I went on a lifestyle course to regain some balance and met the people I'm working with now."
Along with Matt Kay, founder of Born2Move and several other personal trainers and lifestyle coaches, Nina is working on helping others achieve their lifestyle balance.
She is doing classes at schools across Derbyshire and Yorkshire helping children to be comfortable with their bodies and stay active.
Nina's pledge for the campaign is, from March 1, to eat more organic produce and introduce a few herbs bringing a new slant to her diet.
